Pregnancy

PregnancyStop warfarin immediately if you become pregnant.

Notify your doctor, who can treat you safely with heparin injections for the rest of the pregnancy.

Warfarin can affect your baby especially around 10 weeks of pregnancy.

If you are on long term warfarin and wish to get pregnant discuss it with your doctor. Treatment can be monitored and altered so that you can have a baby safely.

Breast Feeding

It is safe to breast feed when you are taking warfarin. Only trace amounts of warfarin have been detected in breast milk and there is no evidence that this can harm your baby.
