Missed a dose?
It is easy to forget to take your treatment, but with warfarin it is important that you take your tablets regularly. Develop a method to keep track of your treatment. The calendar that you can print out from our website can be helpful. Put it on the fridge and cross off each day.
Avoid taking double doses!
If you cannot remember if you have taken your dose, it is safer to miss a day than take a double dose.
Make sure you tell the person collecting your INR blood sample, if you have missed a dose the day before.
Understanding your dose
Warfarin dosing can be confusing. Some people need quite small dose changes to control their treatment. We do not recommend breaking warfarin tablets in half although this can be done.
With INR Online we provide a calendar showing the dose for each day.
Sometimes the dose is slightly complex
For example
A daily dose of 4.5mg is given as 4mg one day and 5mg the next
A daily dose of 2.33mg is given as 2mg for two days and 3 mg on the third day.
It is strongly recommended that you use a calendar for these more complex patterns.
If you are changing over to INR Online you may previous have been dosed in a different way. Some doctors calculate a weekly dose and divide the tablets up.
For example
A patient with a total weekly dose of 30mg might be given 4mg daily and 5mg on Wednesday and Sunday. These doses can be modified slightly to work with INR Online and still provide safe treatment.
